Illegal liquor unit in Bhubaneswar busted, huge quantity of country liquor seized

In a major crackdown ahead of the festive season, the Excise Department raided an illegal country liquor unit at Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

During the operation, the Excise Department officials reportedly unearthed a hidden distillery concealed inside a chamber accessible through a secret passage from the front of a house. 

As per reports, hundreds of liters of country-made liquor were seized during the operation. Moreover, several quintals of fermented material were destroyed on the spot.

The owner of the unit managed to flee, abandoning the setup. Meanwhile, authorities have intensified raids across the capital city to curb illegal liquor production and sale during the festive period.

Earlier in March this year, the Excise Department officials had also conducted a raid in Salia Sahi, targeting illegal country liquor dens.

Acting on a tip-off, the team carried out the search operation in the area and seized a large quantity of country liquor and raw materials. The authorities destroyed the confiscated liquor on the spot. As many as nine persons were also arrested in this connection.

Despite these efforts, reports of illegal liquor activities resurfaced, prompting today’s operation.
