Bhubaneswar: Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya was caught today by Vigilance sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

According to preliminary reports, Upadhyaya has been arrested by the vigilance officials. Raids were being conducted by the vigilance officials on his offices and residences till the last reports came in.

Later in the day, the State government placed Upadhyaya under suspension with immediate effect.

A statement from the State government read, “Transparency is an important pillar of this government and we will not spare anyone indulging in any corrupt practices.”

Meanwhile, father of the IAS officer said, “My son has been framed. When he was posted as Jagatsinghpur Collector, some people complained against him before the CM. He is not a person who will take money.

Upadhyaya, a 2009 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre, was serving as the Director of Horticulture department in Odisha. He had secured all India rank five in the 2008 civil service examination.
