Humane Sagar death case: Orissa High Court grants interim protection to Singer Arpita Choudhury

The Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted interim protection to singer Arpita Choudhury and Somesh Satapathy in connection with the death case of playback singer Humane Sagar.

The Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted interim protection to singer Arpita Choudhury and Somesh Satapathy in connection with the death case of playback singer Humane Sagar. The Court also issued a notice to Humane Sagar’s mother, Shefali Suna, and directed the Markatnagar police to submit the case diary. The matter has been listed for the next hearing on January 16.

The directions were issued while the High Court was hearing the anticipatory bail applications filed by Arpita Choudhury and Somesh Satapathy.

Interim Relief In Anticipatory Bail Pleas

The interim protection was granted to both applicants pending further consideration of their anticipatory bail pleas. The Court ordered that no coercive action be taken against them till the next date of hearing. At the same time, the Court sought a detailed case diary from the Markatnagar police to assess the progress and findings of the investigation.

Complaint Filed By Deceased’s Mother

As per reports, following the death of Humane Sagar, his mother Shefali Suna had lodged a complaint at the Markatnagar police station on December 16, naming Somesh Satapathy and 

Arpita Choudhury among the accused. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against nine persons in connection with the case.

Background Of The Accused

Reportedly, Somesh Satapathy is the owner of a recording studio, while Arpita Choudhury is his friend. Apprehending arrest or police action during the course of the investigation, both approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

Investigation To Continue

According to reports, the outcome of the case will depend on the findings of the ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding Humane Sagar’s death and the alleged involvement of the accused persons. The High Court is also expected to examine whether the evidence submitted by the complainant is sufficient to establish culpability.
