In a big breakthrough, Chhattisgarh Police have achieved a major success in their ongoing anti-Maoist operations along the Odisha–Chhattisgarh border. The breakthrough came during a combing operation conducted in the forested area near Ambi village under Indagaon police station limits in Gariaband district, close to Nuapada district of Odisha.
During the operation, security personnel recovered a large cache of materials allegedly hidden by Maoists in the forest. The seized items included Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), detonators, firearms, wires, batteries and medicines, indicating preparations for possible subversive activities in the region.
"The CRPF team had launched a search operation after receiving specific inputs that Maoists had dumped certain materials in the area. Acting on this information, teams were deployed on the spot. During an extensive search conducted by the Bomb Disposal Squad in the Ambi forest, which lies along the Odisha border, items including two single-shot guns, a 12-watt battery, explosives and other materials were recovered,” said Jitendra Chandrakar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Gariaband.
IEDs Safely Neutralised on the Spot
Police officials said that the recovered IEDs posed a serious threat to security forces and civilians. Following standard safety procedures, the explosive devices were seized and subsequently destroyed at the spot to eliminate any risk.
The recovery of such materials highlights the continued vigilance of security forces in sensitive border areas and underscores the importance of sustained combing operations in forested terrains known to be used as hideouts.
Strengthening Border Security
The successful seizure is seen as a significant step towards curbing the Maoist movement and strengthening security along the Odisha–Chhattisgarh border. It also reflects the proactive efforts of Chhattisgarh Police in disrupting extremist networks and ensuring public safety.
This operation stands as a clear message that security forces remain alert and committed to maintaining peace in border regions. Continued vigilance and coordinated action are expected to further weaken Maoist activities and enhance safety for local communities.
