Half-charred body of youth found in Ganjam, police suspect murder
A half-charred body of a young man was found near Jagannath Vidyapeeth in the Badagada area under Sheragad police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district, triggering panic among locals.
Residents alerted police after spotting the body in an open field close to a residential basti and a school. Police suspect foul play as witnesses reported a cut mark on the neck of the deceased. The body was reportedly around 70 per cent burned, raising suspicion that the youth may have been killed elsewhere and later brought to the spot to be set on fire.
A scientific team along with police officials reached the site and began a detailed investigation. The surrounding area is being thoroughly searched for clues that could help establish the sequence of events.
Describing the case as “sensitive,” police officials said all possible angles are being examined, including the possibility of an attempt to destroy evidence and mislead investigators. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
