Gun recovered from student at government high school in Balasore

A gun was recovered from a student at Dasamahapatra Banchhanidhi Government High School under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district, triggering panic among students, teachers, and local residents.

According to sources, a short while before the school closed yesterday, some students noticed the gun in the possession of one of their classmates. Alarmed by the sight, they immediately informed the teachers. The school authorities subsequently alerted the School Management Committee, which then informed Khantapada police.

Police personnel initially arrived at the school in plain clothes. However, they were reportedly detained by local villagers. Later, when additional police personnel reached the spot and expressed displeasure over the situation, they too were briefly detained by villagers, leading to tension in the area.

The gun was later seized, but questions have been raised over how the student managed to procure the firearm. The incident has raised serious concerns about student safety and security on school premises.

Khantapada police have launched an investigation to ascertain the source of the gun and the circumstances under which it came into the student’s possession. Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
