In a major step toward enhancing transparency and security in public administration, all government buildings in Odisha are set to be equipped with CCTV cameras, official sources said on Monday.

The surveillance system will be monitored centrally from a designated Command and Control Room, ensuring real-time oversight of office premises.
The Departmental Joint Director has formally informed the Transport Commissioner about this development through an official letter.
The CCTV coverage will extend up to 500 meters, allowing wide-range surveillance and deterrence of unauthorised or suspicious activity around government establishments.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary has been scheduled for the 17th of this month to finalise the rollout strategy and review infrastructure readiness. Several important aspects with regard to funds and basic guidelines will be discussed in the meeting.
Director General of Police (DGP) had written a letter in this regard to the Chief Secretary last month, keeping in mind the rising number of crimes across Odisha.
This move will also include the installation of CCTVs at the Central government offices in the State.
Worth mentioning, earlier in a similar move, the Odisha government had decided to install AI-enabled cameras inside all district-level government offices soon.
In a high-level meeting of the secretaries, Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja had directed officials on August 12 to focus on ten key areas to improve governance and public service delivery.
“Unlike the normal CCTV cameras, AI-enabled cameras can rotate and detect officials who are not working and gossiping with others. AI-enabled cameras will have programming like this. AI cameras will remotely monitor the work and productivity of the employees for the office,” IT expert Prashant Sahu had said.
