Panic gripped Odisha's Koraput district after four wagons of a goods train derailed while transporting iron ore from Jagdalpur to Visakhapatnam. The incident occurred on Saturday between Dayanidhiguda and Malabar on a newly inaugurated railway track.
The derailment took place as the train was passing through the section. Railway officials rushed to the site and rescue operations are currently underway.
According to reports, the railway track had been opened only two days ago. The derailment happened during the train’s movement along this newly laid route, raising concerns over operational safety.

Officials Launch Investigation
Senior railway and departmental officials reached the scene soon after the incident and began an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the derailment. Restoration work and rescue operations are in progress to clear the affected stretch.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as efforts continue to restore normal rail movement in the region.
A similar incident had occurred on 27th January, 2026 where a freight train derailed near Dumuriput in Odisha’s Koraput district once again raising concerns over recurring railway derailment incidents in the state. The incident occurred when the goods train was travelling from Jagdalpur to Visakhapatnam. According to information, at least two wagons of the train went off the tracks.
Rail traffic was disrupted on the affected track in both incidents. However, no injuries were reported.
