A goods train derailed on the fourth line at Rupsa railway station in Balasore district on Friday, disrupting rail operations on the affected track.

According to sources, the incident occurred at around 10 am while the train was leaving for Kharagpur after unloading cement and fertilisers at the station.

On receiving information, senior railway officials rushed to the spot and initiated restoration and repair work. Heavy equipment has been deployed to bring the derailed wagons back on track and resume normal operations.

The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. As a precautionary measure, train movement on the affected line was suspended until repairs were completed and safety checks carried out.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Railway authorities said further details would be known after a detailed inquiry.
