Ganja hidden under vegetable trays: Police bust smuggling racket in Athagarh (Source-OTV)
In a rare and ingenious method of drug smuggling, authorities have busted a rare Ganja smuggling case near the toll gate on National Highway-55. Authorities have seized a Tata Ace vehicle being used to transport ganja in a hidden chamber beneath trays inside a crate. The unusual technique left police surprised, highlighting the lengths smugglers go to evade detection.
Typically used for transporting goods, the vehicle was modified with a jute sack and four metal trays at the back to mislead authorities. Beneath these, a concealed compartment had been created to store the contraband.
The Tata Ace was intercepted during a routine vehicle inspection near the toll gate on National Highway-55. The vehicle was travelling from Dhenkanal towards Manguḷi when police conducted the check. Upon inspection, authorities recovered 17 kilograms of ganja from the hidden chamber.
The driver and a co-passenger were immediately arrested and taken into custody. Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the source of the ganja and identify the intended recipients.
Khuntuni Police officials emphasized that the seizure demonstrates their vigilance and commitment to curbing drug trafficking in the region. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity to assist authorities in combating such criminal operations.
The probe is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
