Renowned Odia singer and music composer Abhijit Majumdar passed away on Sunday, leaving an irreparable void in the music industry. His journey from teaching to the world of music was fraught with challenges.

Born on September 11, 1971, Abhijit chose the world of music over a conventional teaching career, leaving his job in 1996 to pursue his passion. Since beginning his musical journey in 1991, he had become one of Odisha’s most celebrated music directors, contributing to over 700 songs across Odia films and albums.

His first Sambalpuri album, Daksigala, marked the beginning of a prolific career in regional music. By 2000, he had made his mark in the Odia film industry as a music director, earning widespread acclaim for his compositions. Majumdar’s work has received numerous accolades, including a state film award in 2011, highlighting his exceptional contribution to Odisha’s cultural landscape.

Beyond films, his performances on Tarang TV’s Melody Nights became immensely popular, showcasing his versatility. Even during the lockdown, his collaborative band performances, including live wedding shows, were widely appreciated by audiences.
