Odisha’s tableau rolled along Kartavya Path in New Delhi during the Republic Day parade on Monday, presenting a unified narrative of the state’s rich cultural heritage and its growing contribution to a self-reliant India.
Built around the theme “Soil to Silicon: Rooted in Tradition, Rising with Innovation,” the tableau reflected Odisha’s journey from its deep-rooted traditions to modern, innovation-driven development. The presentation highlighted how the state is integrating culture, technology and inclusive growth in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Prominent elements of the tableau included Koraput coffee and the Konark Sun Temple, symbolising sustainable livelihoods and Odisha’s enduring civilisational legacy. The display emphasised how traditional strengths continue to support and complement the state’s modern economic ambitions.
Focus on Women-Led and Inclusive Development
The front section of the tableau showcased women-led and inclusive participation, underlining Odisha’s emphasis on empowerment as the foundation of equitable and sustainable development. This segment reflected the state’s commitment to ensuring that growth remains broad-based as it progresses towards self-reliance.
Technology and Innovation in Focus
At the centre of the tableau, a symbolic hand holding a semiconductor chip represented Odisha’s emergence as a hub of technological advancement, digital capability and skilled human capital. The imagery highlighted the state’s growing presence in innovation-led sectors and its alignment with national priorities in advanced manufacturing and technology.
Culture, Craftsmanship and Folk Traditions
The tableau also highlighted Odisha’s rich artistic traditions, featuring representations of Pattachitra paintings, Tarakasi (silver filigree) craftsmanship and tribal art forms. Koraput coffee was depicted as a symbol of indigenous agriculture, tribal empowerment and sustainable livelihoods. Motifs such as the wheels of Lord Jagannath’s chariot along the sides reinforced the state’s strong cultural identity.
Adding to the visual appeal, folk performers in traditional attire accompanied the tableau, presenting the 16th-century Chaiti Ghoda dance. The performance added a vibrant cultural dimension and underscored Odisha’s enduring contribution to India’s cultural heritage and economic self-reliance.
