In a coordinated rescue effort initiated under the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, four of the six Odia youths who were stranded in Thailand have safely returned to Odisha.

The youths — Jayanta Kumar Mallik, Hemanta Kumar Behera, Manoranjan Sahu, and Bijay Kumar Swain — arrived safely in the state on Saturday. They were among the six young men from Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts who had travelled to Thailand in August 2025 to work at a plywood company.

No Salary For Months

According to reports, the youths alleged that the company owner failed to pay their salaries and that they were subjected to various hardships during their stay abroad.

Facing financial distress and unable to return home on their own, they reached out to the Odisha Government through social media platforms seeking urgent assistance.

Joint Effort By Odisha Govt

After the issue came to light, immediate steps were taken in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The Office of the Chief Resident Commissioner of Odisha in New Delhi, the Directorate of Odisha Parivar under the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, the Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Department, and the district administrations of Kendrapara and Bhadrak jointly facilitated their return.

Officials confirmed that efforts are ongoing to bring back the remaining two youths. Upon their arrival, the rescued individuals expressed heartfelt gratitude to the state government and authorities for their timely intervention and support in ensuring their safe return home.
