Bhubaneswar: Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 languages today. The prestigious Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award 2018 will be presented to well-known educationist and literary critic Prof Dasarathi Das for his book 'Prasanga Puruna Bhabana Nua'. Das has written more than 10 books containing essays and critical analysis of works.

Other eminent litterateurs of Odisha to be conferred on the occasion include Prof Gaganendra Nath Das who will receive the Sahitya Akademi Bhasa Samman 2018 while Haladhar Nag and Dr Prafulla Tripathy will recieve Koshali Sambalpuri Bhasa Samman 2018.

The award will be presented at a special function to be held on January 29, 2019 at New Delhi during the Festival of Letters organised by Sahitya Akademi.

Prof Dasarathi Das is famous for his books such as ‘Kabisurjya Kabyabibah’, ‘Mrutyuloka Re Ruru Saptama’, ‘Kabyasambada’, ‘Odia Sahitya Chinta’, ‘Bidagdha Maanasa’, ‘Bibidha Prastaaba’ and many other contributions.

Established in 1948, the Sahitya Akademi Award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and an engraved copper-plaque.

The Awards were recommended by distinguished Jury members representing 24 Indian languages and approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met today under the Chairmanship of Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar, President, Sahitya Akademi.

Prof Dasarathi Das was also conferred with the prestigious literary state-level Sarala award-2007 for his significant contribution towards enrichment of Odia literature through his writings.

Instituted by Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), a charitable trust of IMFA group, the Sarala Award was bestowed by eminent writer and poet Ramakant Rath during a ceremony presided over by late Dr Bansidhar Panda, founder president of IMPaCT.
