A serious road accident occurred early Wednesday morning on the KhordhaBolangir National Highway 57 near Kuaria Square in Daspalla, leaving four persons critically injured after a car collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw and crashed into a roadside house.

According to reports, the collision took place when a car travelling at high speed hit an auto, following which the car veered off the road and rammed into the house of Bansidhar Pradhan. The impact triggered panic in the area, with local residents rushing to the spot after hearing a loud bang.

Three occupants of the car and the auto driver sustained serious injuries in the accident. They were initially rushed to Daspalla Hospital and later shifted to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital. Due to the critical nature of their injuries, all four were subsequently referred to Bhubaneswar for advanced medical treatment.

Fortunately, the residents of the house escaped unhurt. However, a calf that was tied in the front courtyard of the house was struck by the speeding car and died on the spot. The front portion of the house was completely damaged, resulting in significant property loss.

Daspalla police have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary accounts from local residents suggest that the car was being driven at a high speed, and there is a possibility that the driver may have been drowsy at the time of the crash.

Police officials said further inquiry is underway, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of high-speed driving on highways, especially in residential areas along busy routes.
