Four arrested after woman publicly humiliated with garland of shoes in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Police have arrested four individuals after a disturbing video surfaced on social media showing a woman being forced to wear a garland made of shoes in Sadangi village under the Anandapur subdivision of Keonjhar district, Odisha. The viral video sparked outrage, prompting swift action from local authorities.

According to reports, the incident unfolded when a man working in a nearby field visited the woman’s house to procure fermented liquor. Soon after, four accused allegedly arrived at her residence, locked the house from outside, and confined both the woman and the man inside.

Police have initiated an investigation into the motive behind the incident and are verifying the circumstances leading to the public humiliation.

The situation escalated when local villagers gathered at the scene and called for the woman’s husband. Following this, the villagers allegedly tied the hands of both the woman and the youth who had gone to her house and made them wear garlands made of shoes. They then filmed the act and circulated the video across social media platforms.

Police Investigation and Arrests

After the video gained traction online, Anandapur Police launched an investigation into the incident. Acting on the evidence, officers arrested four accused, identified as Minati Ho, Lamodhar Ho, Bani Purti and Kandra Ho. The arrested persons were later produced before the Court on Thursday.

Suspicion Behind the Incident

Reports suggest that the villagers carried out the act based on suspicions that the woman was in an illicit relationship with the youth who had gone to her house. 

No official response could be obtained from the police, the woman, or her husband regarding the incident.
