Railway authorities seized foreign currency notes along with Rs 2.69 lakh in Indian cash from Dunguripali Railway Station in Odisha’s Sonepur district after a youth fled the spot, officials said on Wednesday.
According to sources, the incident occurred when a Railway Protection Force (RPF) havildar noticed a young man sitting alone on the station premises with a bag and behaving suspiciously. The havildar approached him and questioned him about the contents of the bag. The youth reportedly said he was waiting for the Puri–Durg train and intended to travel to Jhansi.
However, during questioning, the youth suddenly abandoned the bag and fled from the station, raising further suspicion. The havildar immediately alerted the Bolangir RPF unit and the Dunguripali Station Master.
RPF personnel soon reached the spot and conducted a thorough search of the unattended bag in the presence of railway authorities. During the inspection, officials recovered Rs 2.69 lakh in Indian currency along with 19 foreign currency notes from the UAE, Malaysia, China, and Thailand.
