Firecracker blast leaves two critically injured in Cuttack’s Tigiria; 4 detained

A firecracker blast in Cuttack’s Tigiria critically injured two youths. Police detained four suspects and seized a large quantity of firecrackers during raids. This follows a deadly explosion in Boudh district on September 22 this year.

Tension gripped Puruna Tigiria village under Tigiria police limits in Cuttack district after an incident of firecracker blast in which two youths were critically injured on Tuesday. The victims, identified as Biplab Sahu and Papun Behera, sustained grievous injuries in the incident.

Following the blast, both injured individuals were rescued by some locals and were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for emergency treatment.

In a swift response and on being informed by locals, Athagarh SDPO, along with personnel from Badamba and Tigiria Police Stations, carried out an intensive raid in the village. During the operation, a large quantity of firecrackers was seized.

Tigiria Police have detained four persons for questioning and are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the blast. The reason behind the blast is yet to be confirmed.

No comments were received from local police or the victims’ families in this regard.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a day after a massive firecracker explosion devastated a godown in Jiakata-Chhatrapur village of Puranakatak locality in Boudh, police had intensified operations, conducting multiple raids across locations linked to the accused trader, identified as Alok Dutta Tandi, on September 22 this year.

The blast had claimed two lives, critically injured eight others, and left a woman missing.

Emergency teams had continued the search for the missing person and monitored the safety of nearby residents. Injured villagers had received medical treatment, while local authorities arranged food and shelter for those displaced.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had expressed deep grief over the incident and announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia for each of the two deceased victims’ families.
