Bhubaneswar: More than 20 fruit shops gutted after a fire broke out at a fruit vending zone near Kalpana square in the capital city late last night.

As per reports, property worth lakhs of rupees were gutted and a few people were also injured in the blaze before it was doused by firemen after much effort.

Even though it is yet to be ascertained whether a short circuit triggered the fire, locals also suspect that it might be the work of mischief mongers.

Surprisingly even though the fire department office is situated in Kalpana square just yards away from the site of the incident, fire engines brought the flames under control after much effort. But the blaze was so severe that by that time more than 20 vendors had already lost their means of livelihood.

Some people who sustained injuries in the mishap have been admitted to Capital Hospital for treatment.
