Farmer killed after getting trapped in paddy harvesting machine in Balasore

According to sources, several farmers were engaged in harvesting paddy using a machine when the young farmer, who was working below the machine in the field, accidentally got caught in it.

A routine paddy harvesting turned fatal in Odisha’s Balasore district after a young farmer lost his life after he accidentally got trapped in the harvesting machine. The shocking incident has been reported from Bardhanpur village under Balasore Sadar police station.

The tragic incident occurred while paddy harvesting was underway in the fields with the help of a mechanical harvester. According to sources, several farmers were engaged in harvesting paddy using a machine when the young farmer, who was working below the machine in the field, accidentally got caught in it. 

The sudden mishap has left fellow farmers and villagers in shock.

Rescue Efforts Prove Futile

Upon noticing the accident, other farmers immediately switched off the harvesting machine and rushed to rescue the trapped youth. They managed to pull him out of the machine; however, he succumbed to his injuries at the spot.

Despite prompt efforts by those present in the field, the severity of the injuries left no scope for saving his life.

Negligence Cited by Fellow Farmers

Other farmers working at the site stated that the incident occurred due to a moment of negligence during the harvesting process. They said that such machines require extreme caution, especially when multiple people are working in close proximity.

The unfortunate incident has cast a pall of gloom over Bardhanpur village and serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with mechanised farming. It underscores the urgent need for greater awareness, safety measures and caution while operating agricultural machinery to prevent such tragic loss of life in the future.
