A pall of gloom descended on Bukuramunda village under Paikmal block in Bargarh district after a farmer was electrocuted after coming in contact with a live wire at his farmland early Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Ravi Sahu, 37-year-old farmer.
According to reports, Ravi had gone to his farmland on Thursday morning to spray pesticides on his crops. While working, he accidentally came in contact with a live electric wire that had reportedly snapped and fallen on his field.
Family members and fellow villagers rushed to his aid and immediately took him to Bukuramunda primary health centre (PHC). However, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Farmer Death Continues
In a similar incident, a farmer from Dandara village under Muribahal block in Bolangir district allegedly died by suicide, reportedly driven by mounting debt and successive crop failures on August 1, 2025.The deceased farmer, whose identity was being withheld pending official confirmation, was found lifeless in his crop field.
According to family members, he consumed poison after being unable to cope with the growing financial pressure stemming from unpaid agricultural loans and repeated crop losses. His family alleged that crippling debt and economic hardship forced the farmer to take the drastic step.
