Berhampur: In what could inspire others to come forward to donate organs, a family of a retired bureaucrat in Berhampur donated his body to MKCG hospital after his death. As per reports, he has become the sixth cadaver donor since the inception of the hospital.

The retired administrator Radhaballabh Pattnaik died of cardiac arrest on June 2 and as per his last wish and pledge, his family members donated the body to the MKCG hospital’s anatomy department.

“My uncle had pledged to donate his body as there is shortage of cadavers for students of anatomy. We hope that this will inspire others as well,” said Diptimaya Pattnaik, a relative of the deceased.

Head of Anatomy department of MKCG hospital, Sadanand Rath informed that though they are using the cadavers of various unclaimed bodies to teach students, a lot more awareness needs to be created towards organ donation.
