In a shocking incident from Barapadar village under Binika police limits in Odisha's Sonepur district, a man’s body remained at the police station for over eight hours after his family refused to accept it.
According to reports, Pramod Bag died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. However, due to an ongoing family dispute, his relatives refused to take possession of the body or perform the last rites.
The deceased’s wife and son brought the body back to the village, but family members allegedly did not extend any help for the cremation. As a result, the wife and son have been sitting with the body at the police station premises, demanding justice.
Wife And Son Seek Justice
As per reports, after bringing the body back to the village, Bag’s wife and son were reportedly denied assistance from other family members for the last rites. Left with no support, they took the body to Binika Police Station, where they sat beside it, seeking justice, at the time of reporting.
Police officials tried to mediate and persuade the family members to accept the body and allow the cremation to proceed.
Dispute Rooted In Family Conflict
Bag’s wife said, “They often assaulted him and fought with him. We were thrown out of the house, and they told him that he would not receive any share of the house or property.”
She added that when her husband passed away, the family refused to open their doors, saying they would neither accept the body nor perform the last rites.
Local Authorities Informed
A hearse driver who transported the body said, “The family refused to accept him and said they would not even touch the body. The village Sarpanch also mentioned that Bag had been exiled for over two-and-a-half years and that they would not permit the body to be brought back.”
Police sources confirmed that efforts were made to resolve the dispute and ensure the last rites are conducted respectfully.
