Speaking to OTV, Moquim stated that the new party would give priority to young leadership, particularly from the coastal districts of the state. He said the formal groundwork for the party would begin on January 12, while the party’s official formation is expected in the last week of March.

Moquim further revealed that the name of the new party would retain an association with the Congress. However, the final name has not yet been decided, as consultations are currently underway, including discussions with astrologers, he added.

Clarifying speculation about the political future of his daughter, Sofia Firdous, Moquim reiterated that she would make her own decision independently regarding her political path.

The announcement has triggered fresh political buzz in the state, particularly amid ongoing churn within opposition ranks.

“A new political party comprising various leaders from the BJD and the Congress will take shape on January 12. A group of young doctors has also held discussions with me. There is interest among leaders in forming a unique party that is different from the traditionally dominant BJD, BJP and Congress. The party will focus on issues specific to Odisha and is expected to be formally launched by the end of March,” Moquim said.
