Following his expulsion, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Prabhat Biswal once again stirred political debate on Sunday with explosive revelations at a press meet, addressing issues ranging from an alleged “midnight operation” to his symbolic red-coloured attire.

Biswal asserted that he has never engaged in anti-party activities and described his past arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as a political conspiracy. He directly targeted former minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, along with BJD’s Pranab Prakash Das, aka Bobby Das, and Barabati-Cuttack MP Debashish Samantaray.

Responding sharply to what he called an ‘ungrateful statement’ by Debashish Samantaray, Prabhat Biswal alleged that the latter’s role within Biju Janata Dal was limited to contractor activities. He further accused Samantaray of involvement in the Artha Tattwa (AT) chit fund scam and claimed attempts were made to destroy his political career.

Biswal stated that the controversies forced him into his current position — even symbolised by his wearing of red clothing.

The expelled leader also raised serious concerns about alleged misuse of party funds and questioned why party accounts were opened outside the State. A day earlier, following the announcement of Rajya Sabha candidates, Biswal had already triggered turmoil within the BJD by alleging misappropriation of Rs 4,000 crore in party funds.

“He (Debashish) is using the BJD for his business and contracting interests. He wanted to completely destroy my entire political career. He killed my career because I had spent sleepless nights after Souvic (Prabhat’s son) used to drop me at 111, Sahid Nagar. He termed it the May 29-operation to become a favourite of Naveen Patnaik,” Prabhat said in a presser.

“He even hatched a conspiracy, used duplicate seals on documents, and labelled me a ‘chit-fund chor’. Regarding the AT Group chit-fund scam, even the records of his driver, who was involved, are available, which you have already shown on TV. He is that sort of a man—the ‘chit-fund chor’, ‘Nali Baba’. He is doing all this for his business and contracting,” Prabhat added.

Within hours of making those allegations, he was expelled from the party. So far, neither Samantaray nor the BJD has issued an official response to Biswal’s claims.
