EV car catches fire on NH-16 in Khordha

An electric car caught fire in the middle of the road on National Highway-16 under Balugaon Police limits on Friday morning. The car was reportedly travelling from Berhampur towards Bhubaneswar.

An electric car caught fire in the middle of the road on National Highway-16 under Balugaon Police limits on Friday morning. According to reports, the incident occurred at around 12:36 pm, when a major fire erupted suddenly and completely gutted the vehicle.

The car was reportedly travelling from Berhampur towards Bhubaneswar when the driver noticed fumes of smoke emitting from the vehicle. He immediately pulled the car to the side of the road. He quickly stepped out, narrowly escaping danger. Moments later, the vehicle was completely gutted in flames, emitting thick smoke.

The Balugaon Fire Services reached the spot and swiftly launched efforts to douse the flames. However, the vehicle was entirely engulfed in flames.  
The Balugaon Police have launched an investigation to determine what triggered the sudden fire, whether it was a battery malfunction, overheating, or any other technical fault.

Preliminary reports point to a suspected short circuit as the cause of the fire. No injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
The repeated incidents involving EVs have heightened public concern over vehicle safety and battery reliability.
