In a deeply saddening development for the Odia music fraternity, eminent singer Geeta Pattnaik passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack. She had reportedly fallen ill during a literary programme, after which her health deteriorated rapidly.
According to reports, Geeta had been in a critical condition since 12 February following a brain stroke. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Cuttack after reportedly suffering a cerebral stroke on Thursday. Despite receiving medical care, she could not recover.
Geeta Pattnaik had been a prominent voice in Odia music since the 1970s and remained active in the industry for nearly three decades. She frequently collaborated with legendary singer Akshaya Mohanty, and together they delivered several memorable songs that continue to resonate with audiences.

Among her most recognised songs is ‘Phur Kina Udigala Bani’ from the film Jajabar. Other popular tracks include ‘Emiti Pua Ku Mu Baha Huenti’, ‘Baha Mu Hebi’, and ‘Mo Dehare’. She also lent her voice to evergreen numbers such as ‘Danei Das Kahere Bhai.’
A respected name in Odisha’s cultural circles, Geeta Pattnaik’s distinctive voice and expressive style earned her lasting admiration. Her passing marks a profound loss, leaving admirers and fellow artistes mourning the departure of a true musical icon.
