Elephant herd disrupts train movement near Rourkela

Train services on the Howrah–Mumbai route were disrupted after a herd of 22 elephants, including three calves, was spotted roaming along the railway tracks near Bondamunda, close to Rourkela, on Friday. 

As per reports, the presence of the herd on both the up and down lines disrupted train movements in the area.

A special team from the Rourkela Forest Division has reportedly reached the site and is making continuous efforts to safely drive the elephants back into the forest. To monitor the movement of the herd and ensure the safety of both animals and passengers, forest officials have deployed drone cameras for real-time surveillance.

Authorities are also keeping a close watch to ensure that the elephants do not stray into nearby human settlements, which could pose risks to both villagers and the animals. 

The Forest Department has appealed to local residents to stay alert and avoid venturing near the railway tracks until the situation is brought under control.
