An elderly man lost his life after being ‘dragged’ by a moving goods train near a railway track in Odisha's Dhenkanal district on Sunday. The incident took place at Mathakaragola village under Kamakhyanagar police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Gumani Behera, a resident of Shabarsahi in Mathakaragola village. According to reports, Gumani was on his way to his farmland when the mishap occurred.
Accident Occurred While Crossing Track
While attempting to cross the railway track, a goods train approached suddenly. In his attempt to move away, Gumani got stuck near the edge of the track. A metal part attached to the moving train reportedly hit him and dragged him along, resulting in his death on the spot.
Police Inquiry Underway
Local authorities and railway officials were informed, and a probe was initiated into the incident. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the mishap, said sources.
