The Special Crime Unit has arrested three persons, including a woman, for allegedly transporting brown sugar in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The operation led to the seizure of 555 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh, along with cash and jewellery.
According to reports, a woman from Khordha and two youths from Nimapada were apprehended while they were transporting the contraband in a luxury car.
The arrests were made following days of surveillance by the police. In addition to the brown sugar, officers recovered Rs 5,10,000 in cash, as well as gold and silver ornaments during the raid.
Police Identified the Accused
The arrested individuals have been identified as Lina alias Anita Paramguru from Khordha, Raja alias Rajendra Kumar Sahoo and Siba Prasad Das, both from Nimapada in Puri district.
Police Commissioner, S Dev Datta Singh said, “We seized 555 gram of brown sugar whose market value is Rs 60 lakh. We had been tracking their movements for the past few days in the Jatni area. Three individuals were arrested during the operation, and the contraband was recovered from their possession. The woman hails from Khordha while the other two are from Nimapada in Puri.”
The investigation is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the accused, said Singh.
