A pall of grief has descended on Ataranga village in Asika block in Ganjam district after a man reportedly died while performing the tenth-day ritual of his late father on Thursday. The back-to-back tragedies have left the family devastated and the entire village in mourning.
According to the villagers, Uday Gouda of Ataranga died on November 11. His only son, Rajendra Gouda, was performing the tenth-day rituals for his late father when he suddenly took ill and collapsed. He was immediately rushed to Aska Hospital, but doctors declared him dead.
The arrival of Rajendra’s body in the village plunged the locality into profound sorrow, with neighbours and relatives struggling to comprehend the double loss within such a short span.
With Rajendra’s death, the family has been left without support. Villagers have urged the administration to extend immediate government assistance to the bereaved household.
“His father had died 10 days ago. While performing the rituals, he died today. He was the only son,” said Sanjay Biswal, a villager.
Ramesh Gouda, another villager, said, “This is a matter of grief. Rajendra has three minor daughters. We request the government to extend necessary help to the bereaved family.”
