Disturbing night in Bargarh: 4 lives lost in two separate incidents of suicide

In two tragic incidents, four people were found dead in Bargarh district late Friday night, triggering shock and grief among local residents.

In the first case, an elderly couple reportedly ended their lives by setting themselves on fire at their home in Ganjhi Tikra village under Sarasara Gram Panchayat within the Bargarh Sadar Police Station limits.

The deceased were identified as Kirti Pradhan (70) and his wife, Shanti Pradhan (65).

According to preliminary information, the couple had been suffering from mental distress for some time, as confirmed by family members. However, the reason for their depression is yet to be ascertained.

Acting on a tip-off, Sadar Police reached the spot, seized the bodies, and sent them to Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for post-mortem examination.

In a separate incident, police recovered the bodies of a young couple hanging from a mango tree in a field at Kumelsingha village under Attabira Police Station. The couple is suspected to have died by suicide.

Their bodies were taken for examination as police began an investigation to ascertain the cause and motive behind the deaths. While no exact reason for their extreme step was known, locals suspect they might have taken the step after being denied permission for marriage by their respective families.

Both incidents have cast a pall of gloom over the region, as police continue inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the two tragedies.
