In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of fear across the area, a man was allegedly killed after being attacked with a screwdriver near Talcher Police Station on Saturday in Angul district. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Mahapatra of the Talcher town area.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Chagala Amanta, had invited Santosh a few days ago to cook at a feast. During that event, Chagala allegedly accused Santosh of stealing Rs 7,200, leading to a heated argument between the two. The argument over the money continued to simmer between them and remained unresolved.
On the day of the incident on Saturday, the two reportedly came face to face near Talcher Police Station, where another argument broke out over the same issue. The confrontation soon turned violent.
Attack With a Screwdriver
In a sudden fit of rage, the accused allegedly attacked Santosh on the neck using a screwdriver. The assault left him critically injured. Police personnel rushed to the spot, rescued Santosh and immediately shifted him to Mandapal Hospital for treatment.
Probe Underway
The incident, occurring in close proximity to a police station, has raised serious concerns. Police have launched an investigation into the murder and are examining the circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
“A murder occurred near the police station. After the incident, police officials immediately shifted the victim to the nearest hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him 'brought dead.' Following a complaint, the body will be sent for post-mortem examination. The accused, identified as Chagala Amanta, has been detained,” said Bharat Chandra Sahu, SDPO.
