Dispute between Bali Yatra traders, administration resurfaces

Cuttack: After the Bali Yatra Traders’ Association and the district administration reportedly resolved their dispute over stall rent, a new issue cropped up today over mandatory requirement of no objection certificates (NOC).

According to sources, the district administration had released a new notification after fixing the rent yesterday. The new notification makes NOC compulsory for allotment of stalls.

Opposing the compulsory NOC move, the traders’ association said that the stalls cannot be opened if the NOC decision is not withdrawn.

“These issues are cropping up from nowhere causing distress to the traders. We have decided to boycott Bali Yatra if such discrimination continues,” Debi Prasad Mohanty, president of the association said.

Secretary of the association, Sukant Mohanty said “We are unable to understand the reasons behind the administration’s discrimination against us. We request them to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

Additional Tehsildar, Pradeep Satpathy said “I cannot comment on the problems of the traders. It will be decided by the district collector.”

Though the administration decided to allot plots from November 5 onwards, the process is yet to begin.
