Former Dharmasala MLA Pranab Balabantaray on Sunday alleged that his residence was attacked and vandalised during a workers’ meeting, triggering political tension in the area.
According to Balabantaray, the incident occurred while party workers had gathered at his house and were, having a meeting. He alleged that supporters of the sitting Dharmasala MLA, Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo’s supporters, entered the premises and resorted to violence. During the attack, several vehicles parked at the residence were allegedly vandalised, and mobile phones of workers were also damaged.
The former MLA claimed that the violence left multiple people injured. At least four persons sustained critical injuries and were shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical treatment, while around 15 others are currently undergoing treatment at Dharmasala. He further alleged that more than 15 vehicles were damaged during the incident, resulting in significant loss of property.

Terming the attack politically motivated, Balabantaray said it was a result of long-standing political rivalry. He claimed that similar incidents had taken place following the last Assembly elections. Expressing dissatisfaction with the local administration, he stated that he has lost faith in the Jajpur police and would take up the matter with the Director General of Police (DGP). He also warned that he would stage a protest if justice is not delivered.
Responding to the allegations, Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sahoo denied any involvement. He said he was attending a separate meeting at the time of the incident and had no knowledge of the attack. Instead, Sahoo alleged that Balabantaray’s supporters had attacked his workers.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and further details are awaited.
