Aircraft ‘crash’ in Rourkela

Questions continue to be raised over the circumstances and possible causes behind the chartered aircraft accident that occurred in Rourkela on Saturday. As investigations gain momentum, authorities are focusing on determining how and under what conditions the aircraft met with the mishap.

According to official sources, a team from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to reach the accident site by this evening to carry out a preliminary assessment. In addition, a specialized team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is likely to arrive in Rourkela by tomorrow to conduct a detailed technical investigation into the incident. Their findings will play a crucial role in establishing the exact sequence of events leading to the accident.

Meanwhile, for coordination and on-ground supervision, two civil aviation officials from Bhubaneswar have already been deputed to Rourkela. The situation is being closely monitored at the highest levels, with the Principal Secretary of the Transport Department overseeing developments and reviewing response measures.

"Six passengers were injured when the nine-seater aircraft met with an accident near Jalda, around 10 km from Rourkela. All the injured passengers are currently in stable condition. The aircraft was en route when the incident occurred. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed, and a team from the Odisha Directorate will visit the site to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident," said Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena.
