Hundreds of residents of Nayagarh hit the streets, demanding the establishment of a medical college and hospital in the district. The unique torchlight procession drew wide participation from locals.

The protest was held on the call of ‘Jai Nayagarh Foundation’, with people from various parts of the town joining the march and raising slogans in support of the long-pending demand.

The torchlight rally began from the Jagannath Temple and moved through different areas of Nayagarh town. Carrying flaming torches, the participants marched together, creating a strong visual display of unity and determination.

As the procession moved through the streets, protesters raised slogans and echoed calls for improved healthcare facilities in the district. The rally covered major parts of the town before concluding peacefully.

“The purpose of this rally is to demand the establishment of a medical college at Nayagarh. Medical colleges are being set up rapidly in many districts, yet Nayagarh continues to be ignored. If the Odisha government fails to heed our demand, we will launch a larger protest in the coming days.” said Youth social worker 

Demand for Improved Healthcare

Participants said a medical college at the district headquarters would significantly strengthen healthcare services in Nayagarh. They added that such an institution would benefit local residents by improving access to medical treatment and education.

The torchlight rally reflected the collective aspiration of Nayagarh residents for better healthcare infrastructure. Through this peaceful and innovative protest, the people have once again urged the authorities to respond to their demand for a medical college at the district headquarters.
