Cyclonic circulation to trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha, yellow warning issued for 23 districts

Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience rainfall over the next two days as a cyclonic circulation remains active over the state.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a yellow warning for 23 districts, cautioning about thunderstorms, gusty winds and possible hailstorms in some areas.

According to the weather office, rainfall activity is expected at several places across the state on Sunday and Monday under the influence of the prevailing weather system.

Meteorologists said the conditions may lead to light to moderate rainfall in different parts of Odisha during this period.

Cyclonic Circulation Active

Officials at the Regional Meteorological Centre said a cyclonic circulation has formed over Odisha and extends up to 1.5 kilometres above sea level. The system is currently influencing weather conditions across the state and is likely to trigger rainfall activity over the coming days.

Under its impact, many areas are expected to witness light to moderate rain till Monday.

Yellow Warning Issued

In view of the expected weather conditions, the weather department has issued a yellow warning for 23 districts for Sunday. The alert covers districts across coastal, northern, western and central Odisha.

Meteorologists said thunderstorms may occur at some locations during this period. Winds are also likely to blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, particularly during thunderstorm activity.

Hailstorms may also occur at isolated places, officials said.

Cloudy Conditions To Prevail

The Regional Meteorological Centre said that the sky is likely to remain generally cloudy across most parts of the state while the weather system remains active.

However, the rainfall activity is expected to gradually decline in the coming days. According to the forecast, weather conditions are likely to change by March 9, after which rainfall is expected only at isolated places in the state.
