The Odisha government on Sunday intensified preparedness efforts to deal with the potential impact of Cyclone ‘Montha’, holding discussions with all concerned departments to ensure a coordinated response across the state.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said that district collectors have been directed to assist neighboring districts if needed and to ensure seamless coordination with various departments. The Energy Department has been instructed to maintain uninterrupted power supply, with backup systems in place to sustain essential services such as hospitals, emergency operations, and drinking water facilities.
Focus on Evacuation and Public Safety
Special attention is being given to the evacuation of vulnerable groups including the elderly, children, and expectant mothers. Pregnant women nearing delivery will be accommodated at local primary health centers for safety and medical care.
In high-altitude regions such as Mahendragiri in Gajapati district, residents are being relocated to lower and safer areas to minimize risk.

All fishermen have returned from the sea, and fishing activities remain banned from October 27 to 31. Tourists in coastal districts have also been advised to stay away from the sea during this period.
The state government has cancelled all leaves for government employees in the potentially affected districts, while schools will remain closed until further notice.
Precautionary Measures in Rural and Urban Areas
People living in vulnerable areas are being shifted to cyclone and flood shelters, school buildings, and community centers.
Given that it is paddy harvesting season, farmers have been urged to safeguard their crops within the next 24 hours to avoid damage from heavy rain and wind.
In urban areas, where waterlogging is likely, authorities have been instructed to deploy additional water pumps and ensure proper drainage to prevent flooding. The Water Resources Department has been put on alert to monitor rising river levels, the Minister added.
Minister Pujari reiterated that the government is fully prepared to tackle any eventuality and that all departments are working in close coordination to ensure public safety and minimize damage from the approaching cyclone.
