Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Pravati Parida on Sunday announced that a cruise terminal worth around Rs 1,000 crore will be constructed in Puri.
Parida further said that a city will be developed over 1,500 acres in the Sipasarubali area of Puri district to boost tourism-led urban growth.
The Minister made the announcements during the 40th foundation day celebration of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha in Puri.
The proposed cruise terminal is expected to significantly enhance Odisha’s coastal tourism potential by attracting domestic as well as international cruise liners.
With Puri already being one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations due to the Jagannath Temple, the new terminal is likely to position the coastal town as a major maritime tourism hub on the eastern seaboard.
‘Project To Create Direct And Indirect Employment Opportunities’
According to tourism officials, the project aims to create direct and indirect employment opportunities while strengthening hospitality, transport and allied sectors.

The development of a planned city over 1,500 acres in Sipasarubali is expected to include modern urban infrastructure, hotels, recreational zones, and commercial establishments, supporting long-term tourism-driven economic growth.
Odisha has been witnessing rapid infrastructure expansion in recent years. Besides, the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government has been focusing on port-led development, coastal highway upgrades, improved connectivity to religious and heritage sites, and large-scale urban transformation projects.
The ongoing expansion of road networks, airport infrastructure upgrades, and heritage corridor development initiatives are part of a broader strategy to attract investment and boost tourism.
The cruise terminal project in Puri is seen as a major addition to this infrastructure push, aligning with the state’s vision of strengthening its position as a key tourism and maritime destination on India’s eastern coast.
