Visitors at this year’s Bali Yatra in Cuttack are once again being treated to unique and eye-catching innovations, and the latest sensation is a pair of slippers made entirely from cow dung.
Priced at Rs 900, the slippers are being sold at a stall in the ORMAS area of the fair. The seller claims that wearing them can help cure ailments like diabetes, drawing curious crowds and sparking lively discussions.
According to the maker, the process begins with drying cow dung and grinding it into a fine powder. It is then mixed with moringa (drumstick) paste to create a thick substance, which is molded into slippers. The same mixture is also being used to craft tissue papers, mobile stands, clocks, idols of gods and great personalities, and various Vastu items.
Every year, Bali Yatra surprises visitors with something new, and this time, it’s these “eco-friendly” cow dung creations that are grabbing the spotlight.
“This is made from desi cow dung, which we blend with moringa (drumstick) glue. We even have a factory dedicated to producing these eco-friendly products. One of our highlights is the acupressure pad, if you stand on it for 20 to 25 minutes, it helps the body flush out toxins naturally,” said the stall owner.
“The concept was introduced to them by a senior citizen. “The concept was introduced to them by a senior citizen. Apart from slippers, we also make notepads, pens, and statues, all crafted from cow dung. Initially, people hesitate, but once they understand the health and environmental benefits, they wholeheartedly accept it,” he added.
