Bhubaneswar: Even as the country is completely under lockdown due to outbreak of novel coronavirus (N-CoV), Indian Railways has uninterruptedly continued its freight and parcel services to ensure availability of essential commodities across States.

Be it food grains, petroleum products, coal, fruits and vegetables, milk, edible oil, sugar, salt or any other essential item, the Railways has made sure there is problem in transportation.

“With the concept- “You stay safe at home, we are bringing you the essential commodities"- Rail warriors of East Coast Railway are working hard 24x7 to fight against COVID-19,” said a statement of ECoR.

Today morning, essential medicines dispatched from Visakhapatnam Railway Station by a Special Parcel Express were received at Palasa, Berhampur, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Rayagada stations in Odisha. Apart from that, medical equipment have also been received at Kesinga in Kalahandi district.

Similarly, milk powder and other items which were dispatched from Visakhapatnam station have been received at Berhampur railway station today. Green coconut from Vizianagaram have been received at Titilagarh and Balangir stations. Grocery items from Vizianagaram were also received at Rayagada.

Moreover, around 3364 tonnes of wheat in 58 wagons from Garha Railway Station in Madhya Pradesh were received at Cuttack Railway Station today by the Food Corporation of India. Similarly, rice bags are being loaded at Srikakulam, Pendurthy, Bargarh Road and Balangir by FCI towards South India, the ECoR said.
