Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak in India, East Coast Railway has decided to disinfect train coaches under its jurisdiction in an attempt to contain the spread of WHO-designated pandemic.
In a review meeting presided by the General Manager of ECoR, Vidya Bhushan, ECoR announced a slew of measures for containment of the epidemic including disinfection of train coaches.

As per the press release following the meeting, ECoR will intensify the disinfection process, set up screening booths at railway stations and facilitate passengers to approach help desks at important stations in case they have fever and cough.
According to the release, East Coast Railway has offered all assistance to the Odisha Government to set up screening facilities at all the helpdesks at all important Railway stations. All logistics support will be offered by the Railways to doctors of state Government to set up screening facilities including infrared thermometers for thermal screening at all important stations handling a large number of passengers.
Railway staff who have come in contact with passengers at crowded areas like booking and reservation offices are especially being sanitized. Quarantine facilities have been set up by all 3 Divisions of East Coast Railway.

In another important decision, the ECoR will keep ambulances ready at all important stations to ferry suspected passengers to hospitals equipped with facilities to handle Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, in New Delhi, the Railways has set up a help desk to check the temperature of the passengers. The Railways has also kept sanitizers near the waiting lounge.
On Sunday, as a precautionary measure, Railways decided to remove the curtains and blankets from the air-conditioned coaches. The Railways also instructed the officials to disinfect the train coaches at proper frequency and clean the taps, pantry, toilets at regular intervals.
