Bhubaneswar: With the continuous rise in the number of coronavirus positive cases across the country, Odisha Police on Saturday issued advisory for all its officers and personnel. The move comes after the State government declared the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as State disaster. Moreover, the State government has notified a new ‘Odisha COVID-19 Regulation-2020.’

As per the advisory issued by Odisha Police, all the police personnel have been advised to ensure social distancing and practice personal hygiene including hand wash at regular intervals.

In a letter to all Superintendents of Police and DCPs of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, DGP Abhay has directed senior officers to ensure that no police functions are organised under their respective jurisdictions.

Besides, the officers have been asked to ensure that all personnel follow and practice the prescribed norms to maintain personal hygiene and proper etiquette while coughing and sneezing. The advisory further states that officers need to keep a strict vigil on social media to check rumour mongering on COVID-19 and take appropriate legal action if required.

The police personnel have haven asked not to give permissions for large gatherings and functions, and to take adequate preventive measures to avoid crowding and mass gathering The advisory further asks officers to impose restrictions wherever required on assemblies, congregations, institutions and establishments to contain the spread of disease by invoking powers under Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.

Commissionerate Police has also started denying permissions for any kind of congregations, procession during marriage function in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Police Comissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi informed that marriages can be organised but such functions should be organised in presence of immediate family members while the reception ceremony can be postponed.

Twin City Police has also issued advisory for malls and supermarkets. The officials of the concerned malls have been asked to limit the entry of people at any given time and ask customers to maintain a distance of six feet.

Malls and other supermarkets have been asked not to hold any sales or promotion events and the sales officers should wear masks and follow strict hand hygiene, tweeted Sarangi.
