Bhubaneswar: Cases of police highhandedness surfaced in different parts of the State, once again reigniting the debate over police excesses. While one video purportedly showed Cuttack ACP Sk. Sarifuddin verbally abusing and slapping a youth in public, another video showing the Rengali Police Station ASI Dronacharya Sahu beating a woman has also gone viral.

In the first incident, when a rally was being taken out by the 'Odisha Nisha Nibarana Abhiyan' near Badambadi Chhak in Cuttack on Tuesday, a youth was reportedly slapped by the ACP for video-recording the rally on his mobile.

After the video was circulated on social media triggering outrage, the Police DG said that a probe has been ordered and action will be taken after receiving the report.

In another video, the Rengali Police Station ASI was found slapping a lady inside the police station. Though the incident happened during Ganesh Puja last year; the matter came to fore after the video was circulated on social media recently. As per reports, the woman was brought to the police station in connection with some disturbance during Ganesh Puja immersion ceremony.

Meanwhile, the ASI was suspended from duty for such highhandedness.
