In a bid to control noise pollution and ensure public safety, Commissionerate Police has launched a strict drive in Bhubaneswar against vehicles using excessively loud and disruptive horns across the city. The crackdown comes after repeated warnings failed to curb the misuse of horns by buses, trucks, and two-wheelers.

The police carried out checks at several major intersections and busy streets on Thursday, stopping vehicles emitting unusually loud sounds. Officers conducted thorough inspections and issued fines to offenders.

Commenting on the crackdown a senior police officer said, “Under the Odisha Urban Police Act, a fine of Rs 500 can be imposed for violating the rules. However, repeat offenders will face strict action, including possible cancellation of their licenses. The government is also considering measures to blacklist habitual violators to curb persistent noise pollution.”

“People don’t even respond to these loud pressure horns, so how will they react to TT horns? I’m not the only one, thousands of vehicles are using them. This needs to be taken into consideration, because even the loudest horns barely get any response from the public,” a bus driver said.
