However, cold conditions are not limited to the Twin Cities alone. From western to eastern regions and from the coastal belt to northern parts of Odisha, people are experiencing a sharp dip in temperatures. The biting cold has disrupted daily life, especially during early morning and late-night hours.

Odisha continues to reel under an intense cold wave as mercury levels have dipped sharply across the State, triggering harsh winter conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that biting cold is likely to persist for the next two weeks due to the influx of dry and cold northerly winds.

According to IMD officials, Severe Cold Wave conditions are likely to persist till January 11. In view of the prevailing weather situation, a Yellow Warning has been issued in five districts for Saturday, which include Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Cuttack, Khordha, and Angul.

The cold spell has been accompanied by chilly winds and dense fog in several areas, adding to public discomfort. At present, minimum temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius or below have been recorded in 24 towns across the State.

Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions as the Cold Wave continues to affect large parts of the State.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD regional centre said, “Severe Cold Wave conditions prevailed yesterday at one or two places over the districts of Angul and Jharsuguda of North Interior Odisha. Similarly, Cold Wave conditions prevailed at one or two places over the districts of Sundergarh, Khordha and Cuttack of Odisha.”
