The altercation broke out when the corporator raised civic issues concerning his ward, resulting in sharp exchanges inside the council hall. The situation escalated to such an extent that both the Mayor and the CMC Commissioner left the meeting midway, forcing it to be adjourned.

Heated Exchange Over Ward Issues

According to sources, Janardhan Parida attended the meeting to highlight several problems affecting his ward. He reportedly displayed a banner pointing to the construction of multiple buildings and apartment complexes, questioning the authority under which permission had been granted. He also raised concerns over inadequate road connectivity and the lack of proper drinking water facilities in the area.

During the discussion, Parida allegedly left his designated seat and moved towards the Mayor and the Commissioner to show the banner. Despite repeated requests from the Mayor to raise the issues from his seat, the corporator did not comply, further escalating tensions during the meeting.

Meeting Adjourned Amid Chaos

As the confrontation intensified, the Mayor and the CMC Commissioner exited the council hall, leading to the adjournment of the meeting. The disruption has once again raised questions over the functioning of the civic body and the conduct of council meetings meant to address public grievances.

Sources said that due to the tense atmosphere, several agenda items were passed without detailed discussion. Following the adjournment, the corporator alleged that the Mayor, despite being the leader of the council, failed to listen to the concerns of elected representatives.

Other corporators also expressed dissatisfaction over the abrupt end to the meeting, stating that the primary objective of the council meeting, addressing civic issues faced by residents, was undermined.
