Berhampur: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved the redevelopment plan of the periphery of Taratarini Temple in Purusottampur of Ganjam district. This being a landmark project in the district, the CM has directed officials to complete the development work within the stipulated time.

As per reports, the redevelopment plan includes renovation of Singhadwar entrance with amenities for pilgrims, path way with drinking water facilities, development of temple premises at the hilltop which includes Prasad Sevan Mandap, interpretation centre, Mundan hall and public toilet.

Sources said a meditation centre-cum-resting lounge, food kiosk, shoe stand, waiting room, barrier free accessibility, seating benches, watch tower, police outpost, first aid centre are some of the other plans that have been chalked out by the government.

Notably, the temple is one of the oldest Shakti Pithas of India and it will be developed keeping in view the Odia hospitality and culture. The presentation was made by Narayan Tripathy, a leading architect. The design aims at making it one of the most attractive religious tourist sites of the country.

Among others, Chief Advisor of CMO R Balkrishnan, Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue Department Pradeep Kumar Jena, Principal Secretary of Water Resources Surendra Kumar, 5T  Secretary V K Pandian, were also present at the time of announcement.

It’s worth mentioning here that Odisha government has been on an overdrive to develop the places of religious and spiritual interests in the State. While the beautification drive near Puri Srimandir and Bhubaneswar Lingaraj Temple drew ire from the locals as many were rendered homeless, it also paved way for the tourists to admire the Kalingan heritage adding substantially to the state exchequer as revenue.
