Class 10 student’s throat slashed over ‘financial dispute’ in Koraput

A Class 10 student was critically injured after his throat was allegedly slit by a youth following a dispute over a financial transaction in Odisha’s Koraput district on Sunday night. The shocking incident has triggered panic and anger in the locality.

The attack took place at Chuchukana village under Laxmipur block. According to preliminary information, the injured student is a resident of Rayagada district. He had reportedly travelled to Chuchukana to witness Shivaratri celebrations when he became involved in an argument with a local youth identified as Keshab Padhi.

Sources said the altercation allegedly began over a financial transaction and soon escalated into a violent confrontation. During the heated exchange, the accused allegedly attacked the student with a sharp-edged weapon, slashing his throat.

The victim collapsed on the spot, bleeding heavily. Locals rushed to his rescue and arranged for immediate medical assistance.

The injured student was initially provided first aid before being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Rayagada. Hospital sources stated that his condition remains critical, and he is under close medical supervision.

Police from Laxmipur reached the scene soon after the incident and launched an investigation. Officers are recording statements from eyewitnesses and are working to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the attack.
